1989 SeasonThe 1989 season started with a bang, with the Red machine trampling mercilessly over a succession of opponents. With five games played, we had registered four victories along with a less-than-winning draw. All good things must come to an end though, and this run of form was halted in its tracks by the (not always popular) Non-Conformists. The rest of the season was a sorry tale of defeats interspersed with a few draws, the only bright spots being a comprehensive win over Richgas and a solid victory against Pacific on the dreaded Tufnell Park plastic. The 1989 averages make interesting reading, with some unexpected names to the fore. With PoC, Phil S and Giles paying an unusually high price for their wickets this year, the bowling honours were taken by the Beard's 21 wickets at 10.2, including 2 five-fors, and BAL who bowled plenty of overs and took 15 wickets for less than 10 runs each. On the batting side, BAL, Peter and Dave Lloyd led the way. The increasing use of Belair rather than Dulwich Park generally helped the batsmen, and seven players averaged 15 or more for the season, compared to three in 1988. The season by numbers
