Report from our man staggering under the weight of the captaincy...

The Red Bat season has begun...on time. A hearty thanks to all those that made the journey, especially to Mark and Steve, Paul's mates who made up the XI. A welcome back to the fold for Stevie D.and a collective chastisement to all of us who made him feel unwelcome in his previous existence as a member. Both Steve and Mark aquitted themselves well - Steve made a great catch and Mark did lots of running around in the field, as did everyone in a benchmark RED BAT bowling and fielding performance, watch out MOB, we'll be match fit by June. In fact it was a top notch bowling performance, specially Paul opening spell - unfortunate not to get more than one wicket, then excellent holding spells from Andy and Robin, who beat the bat several times. Andy had his usual bad luck in only bagging one batsmen, but what a wicket - great catch by Stevie D. Bruce confirmed himself as our best second spell bowler tying one end up while Giles - the Silver Fox - attacked from the other...yes folks, Bruce tied one end up and Giles attacked from the other...with spin. Two top catches by Geordie Dave, one a spectacular running effort and the other diving forward risking his good looks. We did well to hold the oppo to 157 at tea, considering their opener who scored a 50 yesterday scored 140 odd in Cokenach's Saturday league match. As usual the batting let the bowling down, no great suprise there then. We lost by around 60...shame, unable to recover from losing three early wicket. At least everyone got to bat, but it's a shame the top order went quickly leaving the tail with too much to do.
