EGM of Red Bat Cricket CollectiveVenue: The Rose and Crown, Colombo Street, WaterlooDate: 27 April 2001PresentMatt Gummer (eventually), Bruce Kennedy (secretary), Chris Lewis, Dave Muir, Paul O'Connor, Giles Pott 1 Apologies for Absencehad been received from Peter Biggs, Steve Hewlett, Phil Solomon and Mike Welbrock
2 Fixtures, availability and related mattersAstonishingly, most of those attending (and even some absentees) had given this matter some thought in advance, and a comprehensive list of probabilities, possibilities and exclusions was recorded by the secretary. The Oxfordshire tour and the Phil Jones birthday match were both oversubscribed, giving a nostalgic hint of selection problems of yesteryear. Complications had set in over the main tour, as all known cricket clubs within range of Bishops Castle were involved in a 6-a-side competition on the Sunday. Matt (who had by now arrived, in the company of some lager and a friend called Mark) offered to consult with Dave Lloyd to find a way around the problem.
3 Captain's perorationIn a fit of stirring, if slightly slurred, rhetoric, the Skipper reminded the Collective that it was embarking on its 18th season, and that it was encumbent on all members to consider their own commitment to the cause, and to have some thought for the future of Red Bat, given the clear difficulty of getting 11 players onto the field on a regular basis. 4 GearMatt will assess the state of the gear, and buy whatever is required for the coming season. 5 AOBMatt has the scorebook. He will pass it on to Phil to allow the unflinching gaze of the experienced statistician to bear on the unsatisfactory data contained therein. In a bid to enhance our Web presence, Mike Welbrock has bought the domain name "redbat" - it wasn't clear whether he had used his own cash or raided the Collective's resources, but either way it's money well spent. The opposition for the second game on the Suffolk minitour will be Twinstead. |
