AGM of RedBat Cricket CollectiveDate: 24 November 2000Venue: PeripateticPresent: Peter Biggs, Bruce Kennedy (secretary), Chris Lewis, Dave Muir, Paul O'Connor, Giles Pott
1. PreambleThe above-named convened in The Cardinal, close to Westminster Cathedral. The discovery was quickly made that the once-respected firm of Samuel Smiths are no longer in the business of brewing beer, preferring instead to provide their customers with the sort of refrigerated fizz which might well be excreted by a hypothermic camel. This was no obstacle to the lager-drinkers present, but the rest of us took a decision of unprecedented rapidity and clarity for an AGM, and the meeting headed off in search of some half-decent ale. It will come as no surprise to the Collective that the group at once split into two factions who strode confidently off in opposite directions. After a degree of confusion and, frankly, getting lost in the mean streets of Westminster, a reunited party found solace in the shape of the Royal Oak. Very new, very pricey, but able to supply enough Youngs lubricant to keep the meeting moving along. 2. Election of ChairPeter was elected, leaving everyone in mortal fear of a blow to the head from a well-aimed board rubber. Except for the bit about well-aimed, of course. 3. Apologies for absencewere received from Robin Biggs (possibly involuntarily), Matt Gummer, Mike Welbrock, Phil Jones, Keith Miller and Mike Redfern. 4. FinanceThe Treasurer announced, via Giles, that the Collective was £128.88 to the good. Assiduous readers will spot that this represents a healthy profit of about £40 since the EGM (February 2000), so at this rate we'll be in a position to compete with Bill Gates shortly before the earth is reduced to rubble by the sun exploding. The meeting accepted this good news with equanimity. There was some discussion of giving a subs holiday to those who had coughed up in the previous year, but since no definitive list was put together the suggestion came to nothing. £10 each for the coming year please, with the usual concessions for OAPs and other unwaged persons. 5. GearMatt currently has the gear. Paul and Peter were as one in asserting that we need some new pads and bats (preferably the sort without a hole in the middle). Giles volunteered to sort us out, in consultation with Matt. 6. Election of OfficersBuoyed by the resounding success of the 2000 campaign, continuity was the name of this particular game. Chris had decided to spend more time with his family (shurely "lager" - Ed), and Paul agreed to step into the firing line as Fixture Sec, with reponsibility for non-tour fixtures. Otherwise the lineup was unchanged:
7. Fixtures and ToursA surprisingly constructive discussion came to a few conclusions to guide the incoming Fixture Sec. Cokenatch proved to be popular, if unspellable. All were agreed that we do not wish to renew the West End fixture, on the grounds that one afternoon in the company of that sort of pond life was one too many. Giles proposed adding LESSA to the fixture list; no opposition was expressed. The minitour organisers will be responsible for their own fixtures, as well as all other aspects of the minitours, including weather. The main Tour is to be organised by Dave Lloyd. [Note added after meeting: It turns out that this involves another visit to RedBat's second home, Bishop's Castle. The time can't be far away when some members of the collective get too old and infirm to make it up the hill to the hotel.] Since the meeting, all concerned have been very much on the case. The current fixture list is as follows (some blanks still, but Everything Is Under Control (© Nick Brown))
8. NetsChris made the rash suggestion of a day out in Suburbia, comprising
some time in April or May. Any recollection of this, Chris ? [The EGM has been removed from this putative extravaganza, and will now take place in London.] 9. AOBPeter and Robin volunteered to compile the figures for the 2000 season, if the scorebook can be located.
